My name is Harry and i’m the owner of Sabden Smash which was born in November 2022 when I had just turned 17. I decided I wanted to follow in the footsteps of my parents having worked in their sucessful cafe since I could remember.
I had always dreamed of being a head chef and when my mum said they wanted someone to provide food on a friday night to supplement their bar I thought why can’t I do it? I spoke with my parents and in turn to Dave Fishwick aka “The Bank of Dave”who thought it was a great idea. We thought that burgers would be a delicious accompaniment to a nice pint and a glass of wine so we came up with a plan and Sabden Smash was born. We decided to offer takeout too as being in a remote village the choice of takeaway was pretty limited
Dave has continued to mentor me alongside my mum . The burger nights were immediately a great success and people were soon enquiring about me providing burgers at events. I then decided alongside my fridays I wanted a catering trailer so I hunted down an old horsebox and borrowed some money off my grandad being only 17 he was my only option. My stepdad and I renovated the horsebox and I started doing food festivals so that I could pay my grandad back.
I offer outside catering in my trailer for parties, weddings and private functions alongside my friday nights in Sabden in the cafe As soon as I turned 18 I was the youngest ever person to be given a loan from the Bank of Dave and paid the remaining money back to my grandad and bought a bigger more powerful griddle to increase the amount of burgers I could make.
In may 2023 I was the youngest ever finalist at the North west business awards which was a massive achievement.
I have featured on BBC news and on BBC radio Lancashire twice and I am really enjoying that side of things maybe one day I could be a celebrity chef!
In January 2025 I was contacted by Netflix wanting me to cater for the cast and crew at the world premiere of The Bank of Dave 2. It was a fantastic night, I got to walk the red carpet and chat with the stars.
